I’m a mum of 2 in her thirties, living in the UK.
A few years ago I was in the midst of our infertility struggles. “Uhm, what does this have to do with decluttering, Madeline?”
Well, it was truly a turning point for me.
Because after years of infertility, 4 miscarriages and a broken heart - I found myself pregnant. Heavily pregnant that is, at the end of December 2022. I was about to have our second baby - what I had longed for. Don’t get me wrong, I was incredibly grateful and excited to hold my baby. BUT there was a little part of me that was scared.
Scared of the overwhelm that was about to come.
I already had a 5 year old and I constantly felt like our house was too cluttered. Adding a newborn into the mix? It was bound to get even more chaotic. I knew something had to change.
So I started decluttering. A bit at a time.
And within a few months, the house was completely transformed. Our home is so much more simplified now. I still have things I cherish, sentimental items, but I'm intentional about it. It’s not about going without the things we need or value.
It’s about getting rid of the excess, so that we can enjoy the things we love even more.
